Stainless steel strip is annealed in annealing furnaces at a process temperature of more than 1100 °C. The strip becomes soft and can be easily damaged by indentations from the load-bearing rolls. The Mitex furnace roll covers made of a bio-soluble fibre offer a homogeneous, smooth surface. Small slag particles (metal pick-up) can be pressed into the soft roll surface without damaging the belt. Superficial deposits do not combine with the roll, but fall off.
