Vegetable oils are used especially for rolling metals used in the food industry. Unlike mineral oil-based rolling oils, these oils contain both polar and non-polar components.
Unsuitable roller coatings exhibit rapid, violent swelling of the volume with simultaneous loss of hardness and mechanical properties.
Problems in brief:
- Severe and possibly uneven swelling
- Elastomer coating becomes soft
- Uneven contact in nip or wrap
- Disproportionate wear of the coating
